Drugs Alcohol Abuse

Drugs alcohol abuse is the abuse of dangerous drugs along with the abuse of alcoholic substances. In most cases, this condition starts with alcohol abuse. This could start as early as high school years. Statistics report that a large percentage of college students start drinking when they were in high school.

As these students reach college, they tend to rely on their peer groups for support. Belonging to a group that consumes alcohol can greatly influence a person's drinking habits and consumption. There would be times that the person would have to consume as much as what his or her peers have taken. Those who drink much are believed to get more recognition from the peer group.

Alcohol abuse may later lead to drug abuse. Many bars near colleges are not just venues for college students to mingle but are also sites for distribution of prohibited drugs. Drugs may secretly be purchased from dealers and may be taken within the bars without anyone noticing the abusers. Some drugs are distributed in the form of pills that are popped by party-goers, while they take their alcoholic drinks. These party drugs are known by different code names to mask their purchase from the government authorities.

Drugs and alcohol abusers would say that the use of drugs and alcohol give them a different kind of high. The truth is, the use of drugs along with alcohol can intensify the effects of alcohol. This could pose more danger to drug and alcohol takers. These result in higher risk of accidents, greater tendencies to get drunk and unconscious, and increased risk of drug and alcohol poisoning.
